Polari, Monday 24 September

On Monday night I went to Polari at the Royal Festival Hall in London, hosted by Paul Burston and featuring readings from Penny Arcade, Jesse Blackadder, Adrian Dalton (performing as Lola Lypsinka), Adam Lowe and Jonathan Harvey. The shortlist for the Polari First Book award was announced by Suzi Feay, who is one of the judges. The judges are prepared to consider self-published books and books from small presses, and this year four books from independent publishers made the shortlist.

As ever Monday night's Polari was a brilliant evening, with a very friendly audience, many of whom now keep in touch via Facebook and attend every event if they can get there. There's a detailed write-up with photos over at Jon's blog, Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle. The picture of Paul Burston and Jonathan Harvey was taken by Krystyna Fitzgerald-Morris - more photos and details of her work here.

Tickets for Polari always sell out. The next one is on 29th October with Jake Arnott, Charlie Bauer, Rebecca Chance, Stella Duffy, Andie Davidson and Marco Mancassol.

It was great to see you, too. Thanks for writing it up - I like lazily redirecting people to your blog. See you at the next one!
