Two friends, Phill Barron and Steve Keyworth, have written scripts that have been chosen to be performed in the live quarter-finals of The Sitcom Mission at the Unicorn Tavern in King's Cross on 12th April.
The Sitcom Mission, in partnership with Hat Trick Productions (responsible for programmes such as Outnumbered, Have I Got News For You, Father Ted and Episodes), provides a launchpad for writers, actors and directors. The prize for the winner of 2012 contest is a £5000 script commission from Hat Trick.
Last year there were 1200 entries. Presumably this year there were the same number (or more). Sixteen scripts were chosen and will be performed live in the quarter-finals, with one winner going through to the semi-finals on 30th April and 1st May, and four scripts then going into the finals.
Tickets for the live shows are £5, available here. Four fifteen minute scripts will be performed on the night, with the audience voting for the winner (which is awkward, as Phill and Steve are responsible for two different entries on 12th). The finals will be on 2nd, 3rd, 4th May.
If you're a writer who is interested in breaking into sitcoms, why not go down to one of the live shows to see what the competition is like. The Sitcom Mission will be open for entries again in 2013. Interested? Take a look at the guidelines.
